Kia finishes in the top five in 2022 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

Kia finished fourth overall in the latest 2022 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study. The results were announced a few weeks ago with Kia reaching a higher score than any other Japanese or Korean automaker including Hyundai, Toyota, Nissan, Honda, and Mazda.

In order to determine the vehicles that offer the best initial quality, J.D. Power goes directly to the source and surveys consumers who have purchased their vehicle in the last 90 days. Over 80,000 consumers were surveyed in the 2022 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study, providing a comprehensive overview of initial vehicle quality.

Surveyed consumers are asked to answer 223 questions related to the initial quality they have experienced with their new purchase. J.D. Power then takes that data and combines it to arrive at a number of problems per 100 vehicles for every brand and model.

With just 156 problems per 100 vehicles, Kia finished fourth overall and well ahead of the average of 180 problems per 100 vehicles. Moreover, the Kia Forte finished first its segment ahead of the Toyota Corolla, the Nissan Sentra, and the Honda Civic among others for initial quality.
